The Fitness Council of Jackson has been successful in accomplishing these results for a safer routes to  Frost school

Completed a walking assessment of the surrounding area (up to a 15-minute walk from the school) to assess physical barriers such as incomplete sidewalks and lack of crossing guards.

Created a map indicating the preferred routes to school and the location of crossing guards.

Installed two “No Turn on Red” signs at Kibby Road and West Ave., and at High Street and  West Ave. to increase the safety of children crossing the street.

Installed 12 new zebra crosswalks at key intersections to increase visibility of where students cross.

Advocated for changes to the parking lot structure at the August School Board meeting.

Approximately 600 Frost students, parents, dignitaries and volunteers walked to school on October 6, international Walk to School Day.  Immediately following the walk, a pep assembly was held at the school to celebrate the event.  JPS Athletic Director Russell Davis led the celebration and the JHS football team demonstrated active ways to get to school.
